KEEPING THE
NORTHWEST WILD
Blanchard Mountain saved
The final land transfer permanently
protecting the 1,600-acre core
around Blanchard Mountain, a
popular outdoor destination in
the Chuckanut Mountains, was
approved—a win we've been fighting
20 years for!
Logging banned in the Skagit Headwaters
British Columbia announced it was banning
logging in the unprotected "Donut Hole" in the
Skagit Headwaters, progress our international
staff have long worked for alongside Canadian
partners. But with the threat of industrial
mining still hanging over this international
watershed, our work to permanently protect this
crown jewel isn't finished just yet.
Fishers reintroduced in North and South Cascades
We released 68 more fishers into the North and South
Cascades, reaching our project goal of more than 250
total fishers released since 2008. We wrapped up this
collaborative reintroduction project with the National
Park Service and Washington Department of Fish and
Wildlife in early 2020.
Janis Bridge crossing completed
Working with local partners,
we renovated Janis Bridge on
Highway 97 in the Okanogan
Valley to serve as a wildlife
crossing. We also installed
fencing along the highway to help
prevent collisions with motorists and
direct animals to the undercrossing.
Wildlife from mule deer to cougars
responded right away!
