HABITAT: A half-mile long steep-sided canyon with a beaver pond.
WILDLIFE: Golden eagle, red-winged blackbird, moose.
VIEWING OPPORTUNITY: An easy drive on Bangs Mountain Road
travels the base of the canyon, the product of ancient floods caused by
melting Ice Age glaciers that once covered the region.
ACCESS: About 4 miles west of Kettle Falls on US 395, cross the bridge
over the Columbia River. Almost immediately (0.1 mile), turn left
(west) on Hwy 20, toward the town of Republic. At 7.7 miles, turn left
on Bangs Mountain Road (NF 136) and travel 2.2 miles.
