Fishers, a housecat-sized member of the weasel family, were gone
from Washington by the mid-1930s. In fall 2015, in partnership with
the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National
Park Service, we began a multiyear fisher reintroduction project in
Washington's Cascade Mountains. Fisher releases will occur from 2015
through approximately 2020 in and around Mount Rainier National Park
and in and around North Cascades National Park. This effort follows
our work to reintroduce fishers on Washington's Olympic Peninsula.
